Thirteen delegates from GCU have been travelling around Southeast Asia as part of COIL4PURPOSE Project. GCU delegates from the three Schools with support from the Research and Innovation Office and International Partnerships Office have been visiting members of the consortium and other partners in Vietnam, Thailand and the Philippines to form more formalised partnerships and drill down into the details around content and delivery of their COIL courses.

They all reyunited at the end of the week for a final showcase at Duy Tan University, Vietnam, to present the results of the three-month project. The event also included special video messages from Minister for Higher and Further Education, Graeme Dey, MSP, Donna McGowan from the British Council and the Vice Mayor of Da Nang.

Mark Majewsky Anderson from RIO explained that “The purpose of the project is to reflect the University’s Common Good mission through international online programmes. Our existing networks in Southeast Asia, offered a perfect vehicle to explore how this might work in practice, focussing on the three key areas of Health Lives, Sustainable Environments and Just Societies.”

Anh Phuong from Duy Tan University was unequivocal about the impact the project has had after less than three months: “Hearing perspectives from the other partners from Glasgow and Southeast Asia, has transformed my approach to teaching.” From Glasgow, Michael McQuire and Patricia Muñosz de Escalona agreed that it has been “a unique opportunity to explore the detail of the partners’ programmes and discover where and how we can work together.”
